Bonjour,
I just saw the film Persepolis, an animated film based on the "bande dessinée" (that is, comic book--a popular and loved genre in France) by Marjane Satrapi. It was creative and effective and an incredible story--I hope you all can see it.

-by the way, the movie theaters in Paris are often tiny and fairly plain, without stadium seating. Though apparently there is one near me that is supposed to be cool because it is in a Pagoda-like building... American theaters are descendants of the palaces created at the turn of the 19th century, designed to treat everyone like royalty. France I guess has a different story...

Hey Tessa! I'm so glad you're writing on your blog (and the photos are GORGEOUS...the next time i have fast internet I want to see the larger versions). It's really cool that you were able to see that film...I just got (as a Christmas present) the two graphic novels over break. Both my brother and I read & loved them. However, there is an interesting (if frustrating) discourse rising up around these novels and the film and I thought you might be interested in reading an article about it (which was the second one I read before putting the books on my wish list). http://muslimahmediawatch.blogspot.com/2007/12/persepolis-explaining-iran-in-black-and.html This is, by the way, a really cool/interesting/informative site in general, run by some truly awesome women. I'm really glad that you got to see the movie in France, though, which is (if I'm not mistaken) Satrapi's adopted country.

And...as soon my internet situation improves...there is so much more to write about here! Ah, Egypt...
